ATEF has been recommended for accreditation with the American Correctional Association (ACA).

The Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility (ATEF) is the first and largest of its kind in the region and is playing an instrumental role in reducing recidivism in the State of Alabama.

ATEF’s treatment model incorporates a wide range of rehabilitation, correctional treatment, and transition services geared towards the individual needs of the offender which promotes individual accountability, responsibility, and self-reliance. The treatment component uniquely addresses the reentry needs of each individual offender which consists of carefully selected therapeutic services, and targeted interventions including individual, self-help groups and group counseling. Cognitive-behavioral training; substance abuse treatment; Educational Services; Life Skills; Relapse Prevention; Cultural Diversity programs; Family Services programs; Workforce Development activities; Work-release services; Community Volunteer Service; Faith-based services and Alumni aftercare programs are tailored and designed to prepare each participant of our program for a successful reintegration into the community.

Treatment is delivered in a multi-modal fashion which is structured in a safe environment. A variety of cognitive-behavioral techniques and contexts are used including lecture format, classroom instruction, small group sessions, and individual counseling to maximize treatment efficacy while altering criminogenic thinking patterns and reinforcing pro-social behavior that will lead to reducing recidivism.
