State of Connecticut Announces Intent to Award Contract to CEC to Operate 110-Bed Community Justice Center for Women
ROSELAND, NJ (November 10, 2003)—The State of Connecticut Department of Correction has announced its intent to award a contract to Community Education Centers (CEC) to operate a 110-bed secure, short-term residential program for female offenders in the State of Connecticut.
“We appreciate the confidence that the State of Connecticut has shown in our company and are enthusiastic about the opportunity to partner with the Department of Correction to provide secure correctional treatment services in a manner that supports the mission of the Department,” said John J. Clancy, President and CEO of CEC.
The proposed Community Justice Center—the first in the State—will provide gender-specific treatment geared towards two goals: helping female residents achieve a successful recovery from problems such as substance abuse, criminal thinking and domestic violence; and successfully reintegrating them into the community. The Community Justice Center for Women will be located adjacent to the site of York Correctional Institution in East Lyme.
“CEC is uniquely qualified to provide the services requested by the Connecticut Department of Correction,” said Mr. Clancy. “We currently provide gender-specific intensive treatment programs to female residents at Tooley Hall in Denver, Colorado, Community Alternatives of El Paso County (CAE) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Community Alternatives of Casper in Mills, Wyoming and Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey.
Programs at the Community Justice Center for Women will focus on substance abuse, parenting skills, healthy relationships, domestic abuse, increasing economic self-sufficiency, life skills and reintegration.
Community Education Centers (CEC), through its management contract with Education and Health Centers of America, Inc., provides a variety of comprehensive treatment services for adults and juveniles at 20 locations in eight states. Services range from residential, secured treatment to work release, day reporting and electronic monitoring.
