Dr. Kirk Heilbrun
Kirk Heilbrun received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the applications of psychology to crime, delinquency and criminal justice at Florida State University in 1982.� From 1982-1991, Dr. Heilbrun served as staff psychologist and, later as, chief psychologist at the Forensic Service at Florida State Hospital, one of the largest inpatient forensic facilities in the United States.� He moved to the Medical College of Virginia in 1991, where he was Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Director of the Forensic Unit at Central State Hospital.� Since 1995, he has served as Professor and Co-Director of the Law and Psychology Program at MCP Hahnemann University and Villanova School of Law in Philadelphia.� He has also served as Chair of the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology, MCP Hahnemann University (now the Department of Psychology at Drexel University since the merger of MCPHU and Drexel in July 2002) since 1999.� His research and practice interests center around forensic assessment, risk assessment and management and criminal offending.� He has published and presented widely in these areas, and also lectured regularly in the areas of risk assessment, third party information in forensic assessment, and ethical issues.� Dr. Heilbrun is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 1, 9, 12, 18, 37, and 41) and a Diplomate in Forensic and in Clinical Psychology for the American Board of Professional Psychology.� He has previously served as President of both the American Psychology-Law Society (Division 41 of the American Psychological Association) and the American Board of Forensic Psychology.
