Otter Brook Center: Helping Youth Help Themselves
The Otter Brook Center is a 14-building, 50-acre campus facility located in scenic Keene, New Hampshire. The program at Otter Brook is designed for 13 to 17 year old males who have a need for residential treatment. Otter Brook provides a cognitive behavioral program that stresses substance abuse, mental health and behavioral issues for troubled adolescents. All residents must be willing to attend school and fully participate in all aspects of the treatment program.
Successful treatment of adolescents requires attention to developmental needs and family issues, as well as the integration of individualized educational services. The treatment model at Otter Brook combines behavioral management with cognitive behavioral therapy and twelve-step methodology. Teens are provided with a structured, limit-setting environment in a caring community. Residents develop cognitive coping skills they can utilize upon leaving the facility.
The facility is located in a tranquil setting surrounded by picturesque forests, rivers and streams. This setting allows for separation from unwanted distractions, yet the facility is close to educational and community resources that are part of the treatment program.
Otter Brook Center is proud of its licensed and accredited school as well as its Special Education Program. Otter Brook provides an opportunity for residents to participate in onsite vocational training.
Otter Brook Center offers groups on criminogenic behavior, anger management, and substance abuse and health issues. The program also provides recreational therapy that focuses on positive management of leisure time. The Center offers onsite access to doctors, nurses and medication management.
In order to be placed at Otter Brook Center, a thorough review of referral information, including all background data, is necessary. In-person or phone interviews by admission staff are conducted for all prospective residents.
