ROSELAND, NJ (June 23, 2003) — Community Education Centers (CEC), the largest provider of rehabilitative services to the criminal justice system, announced approval from the State of Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) to expand the capacity of its pre-parole and parole revocation center in Colorado Springs to accommodate a total of 750 offenders.
In February the CDOC awarded the company with a contract worth $70 million over five years to operate a 500-bed center to provide quality assessment, treatment and corrections services that measurably benefit each referred offender and provide optimum opportunity for community reintergretation. The new agreement follows a recent visit to CEC’s facilities in New Jersey by senior officials of the Department. The CDOC and John Clancy, President/CEO of CEC also have agreed that the company will construct a separate women’s unit at the facility.
“This project reflects our commitment to assisting the Colorado DOC in dealing with the serious problem of increasing prison populations,” said John Clancy, President/CEO of CEC. “Colorado is continuing to experience dramatic growth in its prison population. We believe that our contribution to reversing New Jersey’s own prison population growth over the past several years can only benefit other states like Colorado.”
CEC also has extensive experience treating State of Colorado offender populations at nine facilities in Colorado. “CEC presently provides community corrections services to the Colorado Department of Corrections and to Community Corrections Boards within the State. This experience demonstrates our ability to respond to the local concerns and needs of offender reintegration within the State,” added Mr. Clancy.
The services at the Colorado Springs Pre-Parole and Parole Revocation Center will utilize treatment modalities that employ a progressive, incentive-oriented methodology in a secure setting. Various strategic therapeutic interventions and behavior modification techniques will be used to promote and reinforce positive change. Construction on the project will begin in the third quarter of this year and the projected opening is scheduled for third quarter of 2004.
CEC provides a variety of comprehensive treatment services for adults and juveniles through its 20 locations in eight states. Services range from residential, secured treatment to work release to electronic monitoring. CEC currently operates more than 2100 beds in New Jersey with facilities in Newark, Kearny, Hoboken and Trenton.
