Dr. George De Leon, renowned Therapeutic Community (TC) expert, conducted a two-day seminar for Community Education Centers' (CEC) Western Region staff at the Cheyenne Mountain Re-Entry Center (CMRC) in Colorado Springs on January 16th and 17th. Dr. De Leon discussed the principals set forth in his book The Therapeutic Community: Theory, Model, and Method. In September, Dr. De Leon held a similar seminar for CEC’s eastern region staff in New Jersey.

One of CEC's many's TCs, the 100-bed therapeutic community at the Casper Re-Entry Center (CRC) in Casper, Wyoming is a nine to twelve month, intensive, inpatient, drug and alcohol treatment program that focuses on substance abuse rehabilitation, education, and re-socialization of men exiting the criminal justice system. This summer, CRC’s TC held a graduation ceremony for 15 residents which was attended by Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal. The program addresses criminal and addictive behaviors in order to successfully reintegrate residents back into their communities.
Dr. De Leon is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of substance abuse and is acknowledged as the leading authority on research in therapeutic communities. He is the director of the Center for Therapeutic Communities Research (CTCR) at the National Development and Research Institutes, Inc. and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at New York University. Dr. De Leon provides training in therapeutic communities to fellows, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other
