Secure Facilities Division Training

Pre-service Secure Facilities Training
All correctional officers shall complete a minimum of 40 hours of training prior to being assigned their shift and duties in the following training areas. These skills will afford our officers to be prepared to handle the responsibilities and requirements of the job and are in keeping with American Correctional Association standards.

  • Fire and Safety (Fire extinguishers, Flammables)
  • Classification of Inmates, Accountability & Headcounts
  • Introduction to Corrections
  • HR Document Review
  • Purpose, Goals, Policy and Procedure
  • Unit and Facility Orientation, Inspection Logs
  • Ethics, Sexual Harassment / PREA (sign Sexual Harassment Policy)
  • Verbal Intervention
  • Cultural Awareness/ Diversity and Civil Rights
  • Read and sign the Employee Handbook Non- Disclosure Agreement Conflict of Interes
  • Agreement
  • Investigations Report Writing
  • Grievances
  • Security and Contraband
  • Transportation
  • Hostage training
  • Emergency Plans - Work Stoppage/ Job Action (required for supervisory level staff)
  • Post Orders / Unit Inspection Logs

Secure Division On-The-Job Training
For applicable Secure Facilities Division staff, a minimum of 40 hours of hands on skill set training in their assigned duties shall include the following:

  • Hours, daily reporting procedures, assigned work stations, review of job description

Annual In-Service Secure Facilities Division Training
After one year of employment, all established CEC staff receives 40 hours of in-service training each year in accordance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. All training is designed to provide current employees with new industry information that may affect policy and procedural changes.

  • All applicable Secure Facilities Division staff in the State of Texas must meet Texas Commission of Law Enforcements Standards through a 96-hour Correctional Officer State Certification Course
