HISTORY

• Services at the Youth Development Center (YDC) commenced in 1998.
• Referred residents are adjudicated and sent to the Youth Development Center on criminal charges.
• All residents have a history of drug/alcohol use.
• The Straight Ahead program is an intensive rehabilitation program recognized within the Rhode Island Family Courts and residents are often court ordered.

SERVICES

• CEC provides a therapeutic community and outpatient treatment services for youths in need of substance abuse services.
• Staff are dedicated to equipping offenders with the skills and attitudes critical to successful reentry using the core concept of an accountability/skills acquisition driven program.
• The program specializes in addressing the underlying sources of criminal behavior by holding residents accountable (and using a structure of accountability within the program) and building core, pro-social competencies.
• The Straight Ahead Program provides assessment prior to intake.
• Other services include anger management and violence reduction, substance abuse and addiction education, core skills/life skills training, coping with urges and cravings of drug use as well as criminal behavior, recognizing and using peer support networks, problem Solving, skills/positive decision making, self help groups (NA/AA), and relapse prevention skills.
