A volunteer group consisting of staff and residents from CEC’s Community Alternatives of the Black Hills (CABH) participated with the Adopt-a-Highway program, helping cleanup a local highway close to the Rapid City facility. The group worked diligently to beautify the highway and give a fresh look to the area that surrounds Highway 79 located across the Great Plains of South Dakota.
“The staff and residents were glad to assist with the Adopt-a-Highway program,” said Michelle Ryder-Grebel, Vice President of Reentry Operations for the Western Region. “Service to others and the community is an important element of reentry programming provided at CABH. It allows our residents a chance to give back and experience contributing to society in a positive manner.”
CABH offers residential reentry treatment services to males and females referred from the South Dakota Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The goal of the facility is to provide residents with evidence-based programming that is designed to create a productive lifestyle prior to reintegration to the community.
“Our staff and residents did a great job in the cleanup effort,” said Tessa LaHaie, Director of CABH. “Everyone had a great day and felt rewarded after participating.”
Services offered at CABH include psycho-educational groups (life skills, family dynamics, self-effficacy), family services, employment skills classes, transition skills, cognitive behavioral group, Criminal Thinking, gender-specific issues, and employment opportunities. The facility has a large Native American population and offers customized services that are sensitive to the culture.
