The CEC Support Center in New Jersey hosted a successful Leadership Orientation Oct 12 & 13 that was attended by new staff representing several divisions of the company. The attendees experienced a full schedule over two days that included ten hours of presentations done in-person, by SKYPE or teleconference; facility tours, and a dinner. The goal of the Orientation was to introduce new staff to the company operationally and to inform on knowledge and resources available to them.
“We value our employees and consider the Leadership Orientation to be helpful in laying the groundwork that will enable employees to rise to their potential,” said Steve Tomlin, Senior Vice President of Reentry Operations. “Our employees are our most valuable investment and resource.”
Leaders of the company were on hand to speak to the attendees. James Hyman, CEO, Steve Tomlin, and other divisional heads gave a summary of their operations. Other departments that presented were HR, Purchasing, Finance, Medical, IT/Risk and Business Development.
Participants included Tony Carochi, State Director of Colorado; George Edwards, Director of the Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility; Courtney Freeman, Director of Arapahoe County Residential Center (CO); Monique Hendricks, Director of Reentry for Pennsylvania; Nancy Janker, Assistant Controller; Franseca Kitajima, Director of Long Beach, (CA); Tessa LaHaie, Director of Community Alternatives of the Black Hills (SD); Roy Morrison, Warden of Columbiana County Jail (OH); and Monica Reed, Regional HR Director for New Jersey.
“I found the Leadership Orientation to be informative; a great opportunity to network with other new professionals from CEC,” said Tony Carochi, Colorado State Director. “The conference was an important first step at CEC, allowing us to function well as a group going forward.”
Feedback from all was extremely positive. All were glad to put a face to a name, and to learn of the many areas of support throughout the company. The busy schedule did allow for time to relax over dinner with colleagues. Overall it was well received and all departed for their separate ways inspired and anticipating their new roles with hope. Another orientation is planned for 2017.
