Casper Re-Entry Center Dedication
Washington, May 20, 2005 - CEC Holds Dedication Ceremony for New Facility in Casper ROSELAND, NJ (May 19, 2005)-Community Education Centers (CEC), Inc. held a site dedication ceremony for a 400-bed substance abuse treatment center for adult offenders in Casper, Wyoming on May 19.
Wyoming Governor Dave Freudentahal and Bob Lampert, Director of the Wyoming Department of Corrections (DOC) lead a large gathering of local, county, and state officials attending the dedication ceremony.
The Casper Re-Entry Center is a state-of-the-art residential facility that opened in February 2005 to provide substance abuse treatment services to offenders referred by the Wyoming DOC. The building houses two separate programs under one roof, including a work-release program and a therapeutic community (TC). The 200-bed community corrections and work-release program has been providing services to adult male and female offenders since 1985 at a site adjacent to the new Casper Re-Entry Center building.
"The majority of people in prison engage in risky behaviors including substance abuse. Those with the highest risk for future substance abuse can most effectively be treated in a residential program such as the Casper Re-Entry Center," said Director Lampert. "This particular facility will provide immediate treatment for inmates who would otherwise not receive this service and would continue to engage in risky behavior upon release."
The Therapeutic Community program at the CRC houses 100 medium security-prison beds and will provide intensive substance abuse treatment, education, and support services in a treatment milieu that helps prepare offenders to successfully reintegrate into the community.
"Our company is proud to help Governor Freudenthal and the Wyoming DOC address the State's need for professional and comprehensive substance abuse treatment for individuals serving in the corrections system," said John J. Clancy, President/CEC of the facility's owner and operator, Community Education Centers (CEC). "Our experience and research demonstrates that the CRC's treatment program will reduce recidivism."
The Wyoming DOC awarded CEC a contract for a 100-bed TC program in July, 2003. Under the terms of the contract, CEC will provide substance abuse treatment and medical services for TC inmates under the custody of the Wyoming DOC. In addition to housing the TC program, the new facility will replace the existing Community Alternatives of Casper (CAC) facility and house 180 work release offenders currently residing in CAC.
