CEC Research Department Making Marks in 2005

Roseland, NJ, Jan 20, 2006 - The Community Education Centers' Research Department was created in 1999, with the intent of gathering and analyzing data from its programs. Since that time, the CEC Research Department has developed into a unique unit within the larger organization. CEC recognizes that to develop and foster effective treatment programs, it is necessary to support long-term outcome research.

2005 Highlights

  1. In June 2005, Dr. Fretz, CEC's Director of Assessment, trained the Social Work staff from the New Jersey Department of Corrections in the administration and interpretation of the Level of Service Inventory-Revised.
  2. In June 2005, Dr. Fretz made a presentation on RISK ASSESSMENT to the Pennsylvania Association of Correctional Managers in the Poconos.
  3. In July 2005, Dr. Fretz participated in the first training seminar for LSI Trainers on the new version of the Level of Service Inventory called the Level of Service/Case Management Inventory. At the end of the seminar, the participants were tested on their knowledge base. Dr. Fretz scored a 97 on the test; the highest score of any of the participants.
  4. Due to Dr. Fretz's advanced score on the LS/CMI Trainer test and his experience with the LSI-R, he was chosen by Drs. Andrews and Bonta to be an expert reviewer for the LS/CMI Trainer curriculum.
  5. In August 2005, Tracey Fass, a Drexel University student, presented her findings on risk assessment instruments at the American Psychological Association annual meeting in Washington, DC. Ms. Fass' presentation was on The Level of Service Inventory-Revised and Offender Recidivism: Predictive Validity in a U.S. Urban Cohort.
  6. In November 2005, Dr. Fretz presented a seminar on RISK ASSESSMENT OF THE ADULT MALE OFFENDER at the Annual International Community Corrections Association.
