Tooley Hall Partners with University of Denver
Roseland, NJ, May 30, 2006 - Community Education Centers is pleased to announce that Tooley Hall, the company's Denver-based women's community corrections program, has entered into an agreement to be an approved practicum site for the placement of master's level forensic psychology students from the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of Denver.
"I am excited about this partnership between CEC and the University of Denver. I look forward to sharing CEC's successful reentry practices with students who are concerned about making a positive impact on offender recidivism," said Kara English, Program Coordinator at Tooley Hall.
Under the authority of qualified CEC staff, University of Denver students will be trained in all facets of CEC's reentry model - from security and case management to CEC's evidence-based methods of offender treatment. Students may be trained to teach classes such as a GED preparation class, a basic computer skills class, and a job readiness class that focuses on resume writing, interview follow-up, and appropriate interview behavior.
Tooley Hall, a satellite facility of CEC's Williams Street Center, began operating in July 1987. Tooley Hall initially provided residential and rehabilitative services to homeless, mentally ill and/or drug addicted veterans. However, in July 1994, the program altered its focus to provide a 60-bed community corrections program for adult female offenders.
Tooley Hall works with community agencies to ensure that participants receive appropriate treatment services, and that they are prepared for independent community living. Case management maintains a focus on women's special needs and issues. Topics that are addressed include parenting, domestic violence, substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, GED preparation, employment assistance and life-skills training. Tooley Hall is accredited by the American Correctional Association.
