CEC Presents New Assessment Instruments to New Jersey Department of Corrections Staff

Roseland, NJ, Jun 30, 2006 - Community Education Centers (CEC) is pleased to announces that Melissa Gould, Assessment Manager at Bo Robinson, presented changes and improvements to CEC's assessment process to New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) staff including Anthony Falcone, Director of Community Programs on June 20th, 2006.

"CEC values open communication and makes it a point to keep each agency informed of the latest and most innovative assessment instruments in use," said Dr. Robert Mackey, Chief Operating Officer at CEC.

Ms. Gould introduced two new assessment instruments, the Texas Christian University Drug Screen II (TCUDS-II) and the Level of Service/Case Management Inventory (LS/CMI). The LS/CMI is an instrument used to evaluate the factors most relevant to determining the resident's current criminogenic needs, risk of recidivism, and level of supervision. The TCU Drug Screen II (TCUDS II) identifies individuals with a history of heavy drug use or dependency.

"The addition of these instruments to CEC's comprehensive battery of assessment tools will further improve the quality of CEC assessments. As a result, we will be better suited to tailor individualized treatment plans for each resident in our care," said Dr. Ralph Fretz, Director of Research and Assessment at CEC.

Over the last decade, CEC has maintained a strong presence in New Jersey through the operation of six large residential treatment facilities. As a result, CEC's continuum-of-care programs have made a significant impact on offender recidivism in the State. In fact, a recent outcome research study conducted by Drexel University with the cooperation of the New Jersey Department of Corrections found that CEC's New Jersey continuum-of-care programs reduced recidivism rates by approximately 30 percent compared with a national sample.
