CEC Research Article Published in American Correctional Association Reentry Anthology

Roseland, NJ, Jul 6, 2006 - Community Education Centers is pleased to announce the publication of research article in a recent American Correctional Association (ACA) anthology on reentry issues. The article, "'Step Down' Programs: The Missing Link in Successful Inmate Reentry," was written by Dr. Ralph Fretz, Director of Research and Assessment at Community Education Centers (CEC).

"As the nation's leading provider of reentry services in America, I am pleased to see this article published in this important collection on reentry issues. CEC's focus on outcome-based research has consistently found that CEC's cost-effective reentry programs significantly reduce recidivism," said Dr. Fretz.

The article describes CEC's continuum-of-care programs which includes a step-down process for offenders before they reenter their communities. These cost-effective reentry programs are proven to reduce recidivism. A recent study in Colorado, a state where CEC has a large presence, found that recidivism rates for community corrections offenders were declining. In addition, an outcome research study published in 2004, demonstrated that participation in one of CEC's New Jersey programs resulted in a 30 percent reduction in the rate of recidivism at one year post-incarceration.
