The Harbor Residents Receive Special Recognition for Community Service

Roseland, NJ, Sep 19, 2006 - Residents of The Harbor received shining praise from Reverend Thomas B. Iwanowski for the community service provided to the Our Lady of Czestochowa Catholic Church (OLC) in Jersey City, New Jersey this summer.

"We are grateful to the men of The Harbor. They truly give your institution a good name here at our parish and school. Their efforts truly make a positive difference at OLC," said Reverend Iwanowski.

Supervised by Dave Reilly, Harbor Facility Manager, a team of eight Harbor residents moved furniture, relocated a library, painted classrooms, and stripped and re-waxed floors at the church's school. The Harbor has provided these volunteer services to OLC for the last nine summers.

"I am very proud of the commendable work of these Harbor residents. Volunteer service not only provides positive experiences for our residents, but also provides countless benefits to our local community as well," said Tom Brady, Director of The Harbor.

The Harbor, Community Education Centers' 152-bed work-release center in Hoboken, New Jersey, provides residential treatment and a work-release program to male inmates referred from the New Jersey Department of Corrections. The treatment component focuses on substance abuse treatment, education, life-skills, employment, and community reintegration. The goal of the treatment component is to highlight the pitfalls of past behaviors and thought processes, while offering concrete suggestions for change. The Harbor is accredited by the American Correctional Association.
