Dr. George De Leon, Therapeutic Community Expert, Provides Seminar for CEC Staff
Roseland, NJ, Sep 28, 2006 - Dr. George De Leon, renowned Therapeutic Community (TC) expert, held a seminar for Community Education Centers' (CEC) staff at Talbot Hall on September 27, 2006. In a room filled with nearly one hundred CEC clinical and corporate staff, Dr. De Leon discussed the principals set forth in his book The Therapeutic Community: Theory, Model, and Method.
"It was an honor to have Dr. De Leon, the nation's leading expert on Therapeutic Communities, teach CEC staff about this valuable substance abuse treatment model. CEC has successfully incorporated the Therapeutic Community model for many years and looks forward to continuing to provide this quality service to reduce recidivism," said Dr. Robert Mackey, Chief Operating Officer at CEC.
One of CEC's many's TCs, the 100-bed therapeutic community at the Casper Re-Entry Center (CRC) in Casper, Wyoming is a nine to twelve month, intensive, inpatient, drug and alcohol treatment program that focuses on substance abuse rehabilitation, education, and re-socialization of men exiting the criminal justice system. The program addresses criminal and addictive behaviors in order to successfully reintegrate residents back into their communities.
This summer, CRC's TC held a graduation ceremony for 15 residents that was attended by Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal. Later this fall, Dr. De Leon will travel to CEC's western operations to provide a similar seminar.
Dr. De Leon is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of substance abuse and is acknowledged as the leading authority on research in therapeutic communities. He is the director of the Center for Therapeutic Communities Research (CTCR) at the National Development and Research Institutes, Inc. and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at New York University. Dr. De Leon provides training in therapeutic communities to fellows, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other health care professionals in treatment programs and also has numerous research publications.
