Talbot Hall Recommended for ACA Re-Accreditation
Roseland, NJ, Nov 9, 2006 - Talbot Hall, Community Education Centers' 500-bed residential assessment center in Kearny, New Jersey was recommended today for re-accreditation and awarded a perfect score from the American Correctional Association (ACA). Talbot Hall scored 100% on mandatory and non-mandatory standards. CEC operates ten facilities that are ACA accredited - nine of which have received scores of 100% on mandatory and non-mandatory standards.
"I am very proud of this accomplishment. I would like to extend my thanks to the corporate and facility staff that made this accreditation possible. To have two facilities receive re-accreditation in the same week is undeniable proof of the commitment and expertise of CEC employees," said John Clancy, President and CEO of CEC.
Talbot Hall opened in 1998 to provide assessment and treatment to adult male offenders in a structured and secure environment referred from the New Jersey Department of Corrections. While residing at Talbot Hall, residents are assessed for levels of re-offense risk and intervention needs. The assessment findings are conveyed to the New Jersey Department of Corrections to aid in the determination of halfway house placement.
The treatment component consists of individual and group counseling, substance abuse treatment, educational services, vocational training, skills-based trainings, family services, and aftercare/alumni services. Talbot Hall also has an extended treatment program for select offenders who have relapsed into substance abuse during their stay in a community release program. The New Jersey Department of Corrections refers offenders who meet the criteria to Talbot Hall for treatment rather than returning them to prison.
"Talbot Hall serves an important function in the New Jersey correctional system. As the states largest assessment center, we strive each day to meet the standards set forth by the American Correctional Association. I would like to congratulate my staff on a job well done," said Sheila Leonardo, Facility Director.
Talbot Hall's re-accreditation is the second in one week for CEC's accreditation team, Tina Price, Accreditation Manager, and Savitre Bettencourt, Accreditation Coordinator. The team achieved another perfect score yesterday when ACA recommended Bo-Robinson, CEC's Trenton-based residential treatment center, for re-accreditation with 100% scores on both mandatory and non-mandatory standards.
CEC is the leading provider of rehabilitative and reentry services to the criminal justice system in America. CEC's facilities provide a full range of therapeutic residential and non-residential correctional services with an empirically documented record of reducing recidivism.
