The Harbor Holds Successful Career Fair and Alumni Thanksgiving Dinner
Roseland, NJ, Nov 21, 2006 - The Harbor, Community Education Center's 152-bed work-release and residential treatment center in Hoboken, New Jersey, held its first career fair which linked local employers and schools with CEC residents. The response from local employers and schools was so enormous, the event had to be moved offsite to Tully House in Newark, New Jersey to fully accommodate all participants.
"The Harbor's career fair represents a wonderful opportunity for both local employers, schools and CEC residents. As we build positive working relationships with local employers and schools, our residents will have better access to meaningful employment and education, which greatly increases their chances of successful reentry," said Tom Brady, Director of The Harbor.
During the career fair, residents of both The Harbor and Tully House had the opportunity to meet potential employers, present resumes and conduct face-to-face interviews. Local community colleges also screened CEC residents for admissions and education planning upon their release.
Harbor Holds Annual Alumni Dinner
The Harbor also recently held its annual Alumni Thanksgiving Dinner. Nearly 40 attendees including Harbor staff, CEC Alumni and their families enjoyed a traditional and festive feast. CEC Alumni then had the opportunity to address the current residents of The Harbor and share their successful stories of transition back into their communities.
"The Alumni Thanksgiving Dinner is a very meaningful event. Not only do former CEC residents get to return to CEC as productive citizens, but current residents also gain valuable perspective by hearing the successful stories of CEC Alumni," said Mr. Brady.
The Alumni Association represents the aftercare component to CEC's continuum of care model. The Association offers resources and support services to assist graduates of CEC's New Jersey and Pennsylvania based programs. The program is currently being developed at CEC's operations in Wyoming as well.
