Dr. Ralph Fretz Conducts Initial LS/CMI Training
Roseland, NJ, Dec 20, 2006 - Dr. Ralph Fretz, Director of Research and Assessment at CEC, conducted one of the first trainings on the LS/CMI, a new assessment instrument on December 12th-14th. Dr. Fretz conducted the training for the New Jersey Public Defenders Office, Safer Cities Program, and Camden County at Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton, New Jersey
Dr. Fretz earned Master Trainer status for the Level of Service Case Management Instrument (LS/CMI), the newest version of the Level of Service Inventory series of risk/need assessment instruments last summer. The LS/CMI is a diagnostic tool that has been found to be useful in evaluating the factors most relevant to determining the offender's current criminogenic needs, risk of re-offending, and level of supervision."
"I was very proud to have been designated as a Master Trainer in the LS/CMI. It has been very exciting using this important new assessment to further the treatment capabilities of our programs," said Dr. Fretz.
Two summers ago, Dr. Fretz attended the first LS/CMI 'training of trainers.' At the end of the seminar, the participants were administered a written test and Dr. Fretz and one other trainer scored the highest. Because of Dr. Fretz's test score and his previous status as an LSI-R Master Trainer, Dr. James Bonta, Dr. Don Andrews, and Dr. Stephen Wormith, the LS/CMI authors, decided to designate Dr. Fretz as one of the first Master Trainers.
Correctional psychologists consider the LS/CMI as the next generation of risk/needs assessment instruments for the offender population. The advantage, Dr. Fretz said, is that the LS/CMI includes a case management component and incorporates the latest research conducted on risk/needs assessments.
