Cindy Talkington Receives Colorado Governor's Community Corrections Award

Roseland, NJ, Apr 20, 2007 - Cindy Talkington, Director of Correctional Alternative Placement Services (CAPS), was selected as the 2007 recipient of the Community Corrections Advisory Council's Distinguished Service Award. The award was developed in 2001 by the Colorado Governor's Advisory Council on Community Corrections to recognize the exceptional contribution of an individual to public safety in the arena of community corrections. The award will be presented on May 18 at the meeting of the Colorado Association of Community Corrections Boards.

Ms. Talkington began her employment at CAPS in 1991 and assumed the position of Director in December 1999. In response to the award, she stated, "I certainly did not earn this award by myself. I would like to thank all of the dedicated employees of CAPS for their hard work. They are equally deserving of the recognition and the reason why this program has been so successful."

John Clancy, President and CEO of Community Education Centers (CEC) extended a congratulatory message to Ms. Talkington and reported, "Cindy Talkington's exemplary performance as Director of CAPS has contributed to the successful reentry of countless men and women in Colorado. The professionalism of CEC's employees is an integral component of our programs' effectiveness, and individuals such as Ms. Talkington, merit commendation for their continued commitment to providing quality services."

CAPS was established in November of 1982 and is comprised of four buildings located in Craig, Colorado. It has provided residential, day reporting, and work-release services to male and female participants since 1982. The program utilizes local community resources, preparing offenders for a transition that includes continued treatment and supervision following release from the program. Case management services include need assessments, substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, employment assistance, and life-skills training.
