Roseland, NJ, Jul 11, 2007 - Staff from Williams Street Center (WSC), Community Education Centers' 84-bed residential reentry center, were invited by local law enforcement agencies to participate in a Neighborhood Foot Patrol. Three WSC staff, D.L. Rust, Deputy Director, Brigitte Dolan, Administrative Coordinator and Anthony Chaparro, Case Manager joined Sergeant Tony Foster of the Denver Police Department's 6th District S.C.A.T. (Street Crime Assertive Team) and Colorado Department of Corrections Parole Officers to participate in a multiple agency foot patrol of high crime areas in downtown Denver.
The agencies combined efforts resulted in 19 Arrests (3 Felony & 16 Misdemeanor), 1 Convicted Sex Offender Contacted, 6 Parolees Contacted, 14 Probation Clients Contacted, 5 Community Corrections Residents Contacted.
"I am very proud of the volunteer work of Williams Street Center staff. When agencies combine their efforts in cooperative events like this foot patrol, they get a better understanding of the daily duties of their peers," said Dave Emerson, Director of Williams Street Center.
The Williams Street Center was established in February of 1977 and is licensed by the State Department of Human Services, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division, as a Transitional Care Facility. Williams Street Center is able to provide substance abuse treatment to participants who are impaired from moderate to high levels due to drug use. Housing and treatment takes place in two inpatient buildings and two outpatient buildings. It has 84 residential, male beds and provides a DART (Drug and Alcohol Recovery Treatment) Program as well as Electronic Paging and Day Reporting Services for male and female participants.
WSC's focus is to transition individuals back into their home communities. Toward that end the Center works with community agencies to meet the individual needs of each inpatient and outpatient program participant. Local agencies provide counseling, GED preparation, life-skills training, community resource referral and employment assistance.
