CEC Alumni Speak to Local Youth on Martin Luther King Day

West Caldwell, NJ, Jan 17, 2008 - To honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the CEC Alumni Association spoke to adolescents at the Children's Aide and Family Services. Arthur Townes, Alumni Association Director, lead a panel discussion with six CEC Alumni as they discussed issues relating to peer pressure and substance abuse to over fifty adolescents.

"The Alumni Association took great honor in speaking to these adolescents on Dr. King's birthday. Dr. King's legacy of compassion and understanding runs parallel to the mission of the Alumni Association. If our stories can affect a life in a positive way, then we have all succeeded," said Director Townes.

The Children's Aide and Family Services is a non-profit that provides group home services for children and adolescents, a treatment home for children, adoption agency services and foster homes placements. The Alumni Association will continue the celebration of Dr. King's life when they partner with the New Jersey State Parole Board to provide volunteer services to local non-profit agencies in Newark and Trenton on January 21.

The CEC Alumni Association assists offenders in their transition from treatment back into the community through the provision of supportive services as they face the obstacles and difficulties associated with remaining pro-social members of their families and community. The Alumni Association is comprised of former offenders who have successfully completed a CEC program.

"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
