Governor Bob Riley Attends Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility Dedication Ceremony
West Caldwell, NJ, Sep 16, 2008 - Community Education Centers, Inc. in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Corrections and Department of Postsecondary Education held a dedication ceremony for the Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility (ATEF) in Columbiana, Alabama. John J. Clancy, Chairman and CEO of CEC was joined by Governor Bob Riley, Commissioner Richard Allen and Chancellor Bradley Byrne, as well as over two hundred local, county and state officials to celebrate this exciting new reentry facility.
"The Alabama Therapeutic Education Facility is a unique facility. I would like to thank Governor Riley for the confidence he has shown in our company and we look forward to providing quality reentry treatment services that are proven to reduce recidivism," said John J. Clancy.
ATEF is 700-bed residential reentry center that uses tested cognitive behavioral reentry treatment and vocational training to help offenders change their criminal thinking and behaviors. This facility is the first and largest of its kind in the region and employs nearly 100 area residents.
"We are extremely excited to be working with Postsecondary Education and Community Education Centers in this joint venture. Hopefully the education and training provided to inmates will be put to good use in the free world while helping Alabama cut down on our recidivism rate," said Commissioner Richard Allen of the Alabama Department of Corrections.
The facility addresses the reentry needs of each individual offender and utilizes CEC's continuum of care model that is proven to reduce recidivism. The treatment component consists of individual assessments, individual and group counseling, substance abuse treatment, educational services, vocational training, skills-based training, family services, and aftercare/alumni services. The goal of the facility is to provide an intensive treatment program that emphasizes relapse prevention and preparation for transfer into a work-release program.
Highlights of the dedication ceremony included speeches by Governor Riley, Commissioner Allen and Chancellor Byrne. Former CEC resident Keith Hooper shared his moving story of how a CEC residential reentry program changed his life.
"The partnership between our company, the Alabama Department of Corrections and the Postsecondary Department will truly benefit the State of Alabama as less offenders return to prison," added Mr. Clancy.
