Washington State TC Holds Ten Year Celebration
West Caldwell, NJ, Jan 2 - CEC's therapeutic community (TC), Integrity, at the Larch Corrections Center (LCC) in Yacolt, Washington, celebrated its tenth anniversary providing effective reentry treatment services to Washington State Department of Corrections (WA DOC) offenders. In the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, CEC staff joined WA DOC officials and local providers to celebrate this important milestone for the 100-slot TC.
"The therapeutic community treatment model has proved to be a very effective method to treat offender populations. I would like to congratulate all CEC staff who make this program a cornerstone in the WA DOC reentry system," said Dan Snyder, State Director of Washington State.
As wild eagles soared overhead, the celebration showcased Larch residents' mastery of TC concepts through numerous speeches and humorous skits. A highlight of the ceremony was marked as two former residents returned to Larch to share stories of how the TC program taught them valuable skills that aided their successful reentry upon release. Officials from DOC, CEC, AA and NA also spoke on the importance of effective reentry programming for WA DOC offenders.
"It was a pleasure for both staff and offenders here at Larch Corrections Center to celebrate ten years of involvement with a therapeutic community. Having former participants return and relate how the skills they learned in the program are still being used to make them successful out in the community encourages others to do the needed work. It also helps staff to see that there are successes and that their efforts do make a difference," said Pat Gorman, WA DOC Superintendent.
