Alumni Celebrate Black History Month, Speak to Incarcerated Youth
West Caldwell, NJ, Feb 23 - To celebrate Black History Month, the CEC Alumni Association spoke to New Jersey's incarcerated youth at the Mountainview Youth Correctional Center in Annadale, New Jersey. Arthur Townes, Alumni Association Director, was joined by CEC alumni Altorice Frazier, Alvin Reeves, Abdul Muhammad, Melvyn Johnston, Darren Williams, and Jimmie Benjamin to share their personal journies of successful reentry.
"The Alumni Association took great honor in speaking to these youths to celebrate Black History Month. If our stories can influence these youth's lives in positive ways, then we have all succeeded," said Director Townes.
In late January, the Alumni Association volunteered at a local church in Newark to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Alumni and current residents of Tully House volunteered to clean up the neighborhood around the church.
The CEC Alumni Association assists offenders in their transition from treatment back into the community through the provision of supportive services as they face the obstacles and difficulties associated with remaining pro-social members of their families and community. The Alumni Association is comprised of former offenders who have successfully completed a CEC program.
