Northampton County Inmates Graduate Reentry Treatment Program
West Caldwell, NJ, Apr 1 - Ten male inmates graduated today from Community Education Centers' (CEC) Future Foundations program at the Northampton County Jail. The graduation ceremony was the first for the therapeutic community (TC) program which started last September and provides reentry treatment services that are designed to reduce recidivism. The 64-bed TC program includes comprehensive life skills and reentry training focused on the needs of male inmates including addiction, criminal thinking errors, and reintegration issues.
"I am extremely proud of this first graduating class and their completion of this reentry treatment program marks an important milestone on their journey to leading productive and law-abiding lives," said Rebecca Duke-Walker, Program Director. "I would like to thank the Northampton Department of Corrections and the Prison Advisory Board for the confidence they have shown in our treatment program, the correctional officers for their cooperation, and CEC staff for their hard work and dedication in implementing the program and helping to provide inmates with an opportunity to change."
During the ceremony CEC staff and county officials commended the graduates on their important achievement. Graduates were presented with certificates and program participants spoke about how the TC has prepared them for successful community reentry. Four graduates will be paroled following the graduation and will attend the CEC aftercare group, three will be transferred to the community corrections facility and continue their transition from the work release program and three graduates will remain in the TC and serve as role models and tutors until their sentence allows them to be discharged.
In attendance at the ceremony were Roger Bulava, Deputy Warden, John Robinson, Vice Chairman of the Prison Advisory Board, Mary Rose Worthington, CEC Southeast Regional Director, Melissa Weglarz, CEC State Director of Inpatient Treatment Service, and Steve Tomlin, CEC Director of Program Accountability along with numerous CEC and Northampton County staff members.
