Casper Re-Entry Center Holds Ceremony for Therapeutic Community Graduates

West Caldwell, NJ, Jul 8 - The Casper Re-Entry Center (CRC), CEC's 400-bed residential reentry center in Casper, Wyoming held a graduation ceremony for 14 residents in its Therapeutic Community (TC) program on July 8, 2009. The goal of CRC reentry treatment programs is to assist men and women in becoming law abiding citizens while living a healthy and drug free lives.

"CEC takes great pride in the successful future of each graduate and looks forward to making a positive impact on recidivism in the State of Wyoming," said John J. Clancy, Chairman and CEO of CEC.

Susan Thomas, the wife of the late U.S. Sen. Craig Thomas was the keynote speaker at the event. Ms. Thomas was presented with a certificate of appreciation from CRC as her organization, the Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation, donated workbooks to residents preparing to go to college.

Since opening in 2005, 411 residents have graduated from the TC program. CRC's TC treatment model is designed as a nine to twelve month, intensive, inpatient, drug and alcohol program that program focuses on substance abuse rehabilitation, education, and re-socialization of men, coming out of the criminal justice system. The program is designed to address criminal and addictive behavior in order to successfully reintegrate residents back into their communities.

"The State of Wyoming expressed a willingness to solve substance abuse problems from a clinical perspective," said Dr. Robert Mackey, Senior Vice President at CEC. "We know that drug abuse is sending our family members into the criminal justice system. We also know that treatment works. We think this TC program is an incredible opportunity to give back to the state by giving people whose lives have been taken by their disease a second chance. And it works. This graduation shows that."

The CRC population participates in wide variety of program depending on their referring agency including work release, a therapeutic community, and residential treatment. Offenders are referred from the Wyoming Department of Corrections, Natrona County & City, as well as the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The facility also has a specialized program for Native Americans and operates a day reporting center. CRC is accredited by the American Correctional Association.

"I can see the changes in these men upon graduation from CRC's Therapeutic Community. We have had family members, friends, fathers and mothers, even people in our community call and tell me personally, that they can see the significant changes their son's, friends, and family have made," said Patrick Peerenboom, Facility Director at. CRC.
