Coleman Hall/Hoffman Hall Recommended for American Correctional Association Reaccreditation

West Caldwell, NJ, Sep 25, 2009 - Coleman/Hoffman Hall, Community Education Centers, Inc.'s (CEC) 700-bed residential reentry center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was recommended for American Correction Association (ACA) Adult Community Residential Services (ACRS) reaccreditation after a two day audit on Sept 24. The two facilities are located on the same site- Hoffman Hall, a 400-bed residential reentry center, serves the Philadelphia Prison System and Coleman Hall, a 300-bed bed residential reentry center, serves the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, and the Bucks County Department of Corrections.

CEC operates sixteen community-based reentry programs with ACRS accreditation all of which have scored 100% on all mandatory and non-mandatory standards, a record that is unprecedented in the industry. Hoffman Hall and Coleman Halls will receive official reaccreditation in January 2010 at the ACA winter conference in Tampa, Florida.

"Today's recommendation for reaccreditation honors the memory of Alan Hoffman-former CEC employee who pioneered CEC's residential reentry treatment facility- as it is testament to Alan's belief that a safe and secure facility and effective reentry treatment services can go hand-in-hand. I would like to thank all Coleman and Hoffman Hall and accreditation staff that worked so hard to achieve this important goal," said John J. Clancy, Chairman and CEO of CEC.

The Joseph E. Coleman Education and Training Center, has been operational since November 2001 and provides residential treatment services for up to 300 males. Coleman Hall's residential programs focus on substance abuse treatment, education, life skills, employment, community reintegration, and a mental health program that are offered at the facility.

Hoffman Hall opened in July 2008 and addresses the reentry needs of each individual resident and utilizes CEC's continuum of care model that is proven to reduce recidivism. The treatment component consists of carefully selected reentry services including individual and group counseling; cognitive-behavioral training; substance abuse treatment; educational services and life skills training. All of the components are consistent with current scientific and professional literature relevant to correctional populations. The assessment process at Hoffman Hall uses standardized and actuarially based instruments to gather information to determine an resident's current risk factors for public safety concerns and recidivism.

"Hoffman Hall celebrated its one year anniversary of successful operations for the Philadelphia Prison System this summer. Today's recommendation for reaccreditation is another great milestone for this facility," added Dr. Robert Mackey, Senior Vice President at CEC.

ACA standards address services, programs, and operations essential to effective correctional management. Through accreditation, an agency is able to maintain a balance between protecting the public and providing an environment that safeguards the life, health, and safety of staff and residents. Standards set by ACA reflect practical up-to-date policies and procedures and function as a management tool for agencies and facilities throughout the world.
