Arthur Townes, CEC Alumni Association Director, Selected as Member of Newark Reentry Advisory Board

West Caldwell, NJ, Oct 6, 2009 - Arthur Townes, Director of Community Education Centers, Inc. Alumni Association, was selected to join the Newark Reentry Advisory Board for the City of Newark Reentry Office in New Jersey. The Newark Reentry initiative is guided by Mayor Cory Booker and supports ex-offenders as they transition back into the community. Priorities include establishing employment, family reunification, the provision of supportive services, and performance measurement and accountability.

"I would like to congratulate Arthur on his recent selection to the Newark Reentry Advisory Board. His expertise will serve to further the mission of the board," said Dr. Robert Mackey, Senior Vice President at CEC.

The Newark Reentry Advisory Board is presently involved with the launch of many projects: starting a nationally recognized prisoner reentry effort, Opportunity Reconnect (a collaborative effort with Essex County Community College), a transitional jobs program "Clean and Green," establishing a reentry task force, ReentryStat, (a performance management system), and partnering with a variety of private and philanthropic organizations.

Mr. Townes has vast experience working with alumni and reentry programs for CEC and assisting ex-offenders. He began his his career at CEC as a Counselor, then a Senior Counselor, and then became the Alumni Association Director. Arthur volunteers at a group home for troubled youth and works as a mentor for at-risk youth. He is active in Newark communities and participates in anti-violence programs, gang prevention awareness, and has coordinated a multitude of community service projects for residents and Alumni.

"It was an honor to be asked to participate on the Newark Reentry Advisory Board, I look forward to assisting in the many facets of the organization and doing what I can to provide quality services to those individuals about to reenter the community," said Mr. Townes.
