100% Score for Talbot Hall on American Correctional Association Reaccreditation
West Caldwell, NJ, Nov 5, 2009 - Community Education Centers, Inc.'s (CEC) Talbot Hall in Kearny, New Jersey was recommended for American Correctional Association (ACA) Adult Community Residential Services (ACRS) reaccreditation after a two day audit. CEC operates sixteen community-based reentry programs with ACRS accreditation all of which have scored 100% on all mandatory and non-mandatory standards, a record that is unprecedented in the industry. Talbot Hall will receive its official reaccreditation in May 2010 at the ACA Correctional Accreditation Managers Association Conference.
"Talbot Hall has been a cornerstone facility in New Jersey's reentry system for over ten years. The accreditation of this residential assessment center is a mark of excellence for the facility and its staff," said Dr. Robert Mackey, Senior Vice President at CEC.
Open since April 1998, Talbot Hall is a residential assessment center that has the capacity to provide reentry assessment and treatment services to 500 offenders referred from the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC). Talbot Hall's comprehensive assessment services are used to determine an offender's suitability for placement in a community-based work release program.
While at Talbot Hall residents also receive reentry treatment services that include substance abuse treatment, a family services program, anger management classes , educational training, spiritual services, 12-Step programs, and after care Alumni Association services. The facility's mission is to provide a healthy, drug-free, safe and secure therapeutic environment in which the resident can focus on changing addictive and criminal behaviors. Talbot Hall also maintains a Quality Management Committee that focuses on facility level quality control. A strong emphasis is placed on the family services program, which allows the resident to engage in activities to enhance and strengthen family interaction and support.
"The staff at Talbot Hall did an excellent job facilitating this audit. I would also like to thank my accreditation team for their excellent work," said Tina Price, ACA Accreditation Manager.
The ACA accreditation program is a professional peer review process based on national standards that have evolved since the founding of the Association in 1870. The standards were developed by national leaders from the field of corrections, law, architecture, health care, and other groups who are interested in sound correctional management.
ACA standards address services, programs, and operations essential to effective correctional management. Through accreditation, an agency is able to maintain a balance between protecting the public and providing an environment that safeguards the life, health, and safety of staff and offenders. Standards set by ACA reflect practical up-to-date policies and procedures and function as a management tool for agencies and facilities throughout the world.
