Thanksgiving Traditions Remain at Harbor

West Caldwell, NJ, Nov 19, 2009 - The Harbor, CEC's 152-bed residential reentry treatment center formerly located in Hoboken, New Jersey, moved to a new location in Newark, New Jersey earlier this year. The transition was smooth and by all accounts a great success for the staff and residents and the facility continues to provide effective reentry treatment services for New Jersey's offenders.

Another Harbor tradition that made the leap to Newark was the Harbor's Annual Alumni Thanksgiving Dinner. Held on November 18, the event brought together staff, alumni, and current residents for a night of reflection and celebration.

"The annual Thanksgiving Dinner is a tradition that really captures the spirit of The Harbor. We build a community here that focuses on changing the lives of our residents. When our residents hear the success stories of our alumni they are deeply moved as they witness real examples of changed lives," said Tom Brady, Director of the Harbor.

The CEC Alumni Association is comprised of former offenders who have successfully completed a CEC reentry treatment program. The Alumni Association assists these ex-offenders in their transition from treatment back into the community. As mentors, alumni are available to offenders, before and after release, to provide referral assistance and encourage them to set goals, find jobs, and utilize social services.

"The Thanksgiving Dinner is truly a moment for doing just that-taking time to give thanks to all of those who have aided us on our journey toward success. I want to thank the staff of the Harbor, the alumni staff, the alumni, and our residents for making this such a great night," said Arthur Townes, Director of the CEC Alumni Associaiton.

The Alumni Association holds monthly meetings at CEC's New Jersey facilities, including Tully House, Delaney Hall, Talbot Hall, Logan Hall and Bo Robinson, as well as Coleman Hall and Hoffman Hall located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During the meetings, alumni return to speak with current residents and share stories about their journey toward successful community reentry.
