United Nations Report Cites Positive Innovations at
Delaney Hall
West Caldwell, NJ March 23 -
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees report "UNHCR Mission Report" identified a "number of positive aspects" of the Delaney Hall including reduced restrictions on freedom of movement, amplified access to recreation spaces, improved accessibility of the location for family, attorney and other visits, increased availability of programming for residents, increase in street clothes appearance of staff and detainees, additional privacy in bathroom, smaller size of dorm rooms, contact visitations, improved accessibility by public transportation concluding that Delaney Hall provides a "less penal, less restrictive environment."
"Delaney Hall is very proud of this report from the United Nations as it accurately represents the focus and mission of the facility—to provide a humane setting for non-criminal detainees that meets the standards of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The facility is operated with strict oversight, accountability, and daily communication between Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and Essex County, NJ."
