Philadelphia Beautified by Coleman Hall Staff and Residents
West Caldwell, NJ April 17 -
An annual rite of spring in Philadelphia is the Philly Spring Cleanup, which is a very successful community service event where hundreds of volunteers work together to brighten up neighborhoods and make streets sparkling clean. Residents of Coleman Hall, Community Education Centers, Inc.'s 300-bed residential reentry center in Philadelphia, have participated in this event every year, allowing them an opportunity to give back to the city in a spirit of service to the community. Coleman Hall is designed to provide effective reentry treatment services for residents referred by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole and Bucks County Department of Corrections.
Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez of Philadelphia's 7th District has been a prominent organizer of the cleanup, offering assistance and guidance to the cleanup crews that transform neighborhoods. Councilwoman Sanchez invited the residents of Coleman Hall to participate once again, crediting the residents for their past wholehearted effort towards cleaning up playgrounds and streets.
"I want to thank all the staff and residents of Coleman Hall who volunteered for this event. Their spirit of volunteerism encapsulates what it means to be on the road to recovery and successful reentry and the streets of Philadelphia are cleaner today after their efforts," said Dr. Robert Mackey, Senior Vice President for Clinical Services, Quality Assurance and Research.
Twenty residents of Coleman Hall joined CEC staff Al Stuhl, Community Relations Manager for Philadelphia; John Curl, Director; Cassandra Lenares, Deputy Director; Lance Walker, Building and Grounds Manager; Fred Shapiro, Director of Program Activities; Lenora King, Unit Manager, and Andrea Harris, Operations Manager, volunteered to cleanup neighborhoods assigned to them. The hard-working crew filled bags of trash, swept and cleaned Front Street and surrounding areas in the 7th District of Philadelphia.
