Scranton Reentry Volunteers Cleanup Lackawanna River
West Caldwell, NJ May 17 -
Close on the heels of spring are CEC volunteers from across the country, who give their time to participate in local community events, including many neighborhood cleanups and service activities held outdoors. Staff and residents at the Scranton, Pennsylvania residential reentry facility volunteered to be part of a cleanup hosted by the Lackawanna River Corridor Association. CEC Scranton has a capacity of 60 males residents referred from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections and Halfway Back (Parole) programs.
"We appreciate the opportunity to volunteer within the community," said said Wendy Foose, Director. "There has always been great response from staff and residents with their willingness to participate. We emphasize the importance of community service at the facility, and appreciate an opportunity to give back for the residents."
The team did a great job cleaning up the riverside, and enjoyed a nice day outdoors working hard. The Scranton facility focuses on community service and work release as an integral step towards reentry. They have an excellent employment rate amongst residents that averages 75-85%. The facility also maintains an excellent track record of supporting the local community with cleanups and various volunteer-related activities that are geared to improve the neighborhood, and provide the resident with a chance to give back to the community.
