New Mexico Reentry Facility Residents Make Spiritual Journey
West Caldwell, NJ April 30 -
Residents supplemented their reentry treatment services with an outdoor walk designed to foster a sense of spirituality to the top of Tome Hill in New Mexico. The landmark is known in popular local lore for its spiritual benefits of restorative healing and prayer. The group consisted of 43 residents and 5 staff from the New Mexico Men’s Recovery Academy (NMRA) in Los Lunas made the six mile hike over rugged terrain as a journey of spiritual renewal. All found the event extremely gratifying.
“The walk is a positive event that supplements the reentry treatment services offered at the facility, signifying growth, strength, a sense of belonging and a bond with a higher power. The uplifting journey, although tough at times, serves to help the residents experience a sense of accomplishment and group solidarity,” said Angela Dannenbring, Director of NMWRA.
The NMMRA has the capacity to serve 183 males referred from the New Mexico Corrections Department, Probation and Parole Division. The male residents are provided with a specialized treatment program that includes an active family services program, anger management, educational training and 12-step treatment.
