Liberty Hall Residents Nail Down Volunteer Work

West Caldwell, NJ February 25 -
Residents at Liberty Hall put on hard hats and picked up hammers and nails to help build a home for a Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity family. The volunteer project is one of many at the Indianapolis, Indiana-based reentry center that strives to connect residents to meaningful community service projects. Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that provides people in need the life-changing opportunity to purchase and own quality, affordable homes by using volunteer labor and donations to build, renovate and repair houses throughout Marion, Hendricks and Hancock counties.

“Once our residents see that they can make a positive difference in the community a light goes off in their heads. They are no longer taking from the community, they are giving back and this helps us with the reentry process,” said Curt Langhammer, Director of Liberty Hall. “Our residents worked very hard and the project leader said he would have them back anytime.”

Liberty Hall is CEC’s 330-bed reentry center that provides work release services for the Indiana Department of Correction and gender specific reentry services for Marion County, Indiana. Work release residents receive reentry treatment services as well as employment readiness, computer training, life-skills planning, GED classess and substance abuse training.
