ADAPPT’s Community Involvement Events

West Caldwell, NJ August 10 -

ADAPPT (Alcohol & Drug Addiction Parole & Probation Treatment), in Reading, Pennsylvania is proud to continue its longstanding tradition of community involvement by participating in two recent events that were beneficial for the community and the residents. Residents accompanied by staff joined volunteers with Wells Fargo for Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS), Operation Renovation: A Veterans Affair. Later in July residents were able to attend a conference on post release employment, sponsored by Abba’s Advocates, a civil rights group located in Reading.

The employment seminar was held July 20 during the Unified Criminal Justice Conference. The conference was coordinated by Evelyn Morrison, of Abba’s Advocates and ADAPPT residents accompanied by staff were invited to attend the sessions that focus on employment after release. The theme of the conference was “Breaking the Chains of Bondage,” and featured State and local legislators, including Lt. Governor Michael Stack, the Berks County District Attorney, and many faith-based organizations.

“At ADAPPT our focus is on quality reentry services that provide our residents with as many tools as possible in an effort to live as productive citizens,” said Michael Critchosin, Director of ADAPPT. “Gaining employment is crucial for successful reentry into the community, and we are grateful to have been invited to attend the informative sessions with honored guests.”

Residents were able to attend workshops, hear keynote speakers, and participate in employment trainings and certifications through various employment partners of Abba’s Advocates. Staff from ADAPPT were on hand to help residents network with various organizations to assist our residents achieve gainful employment as ex-offenders. It was a productive day for residents and provided hope for future employment possibilities. All expressed gratitude for knowledge gained at the conference.

ADAPPT Staff & Residents Volunteer to Help Homeowner/Veteran

NHS put out a call for volunteers to help homeowners that are veterans who are unable to complete minor repairs at their homes. Donna Conley, ADAPPT Group Home Supervisor, responded to the call by accompanying twelve male and female residents from ADAPPT. The ADAPPT group joined other volunteers at the home to help a local Veteran homeowner spruce up her home and property.

“It was a very special day for all who attended,” said Ms. Conley. “The homeowner was extremely pleased with the help she received from our volunteers. She was grateful and it made all who helped experience a feeling of being rewarded from their hard work and positive actions.”

ADAPPT is very active in the community and just over the last three months has participated in approximately 50+ hours of community service. Their wide range of volunteer efforts include work with the Hope Lutheran Church and Rescue Mission, the Callowhill Arts Center, and the Central Pennsylvania African American Museum.

The facility has several locations which provide residential reentry, outpatient and day reporting services to individuals referred from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, and the Bureau of Community Corrections to a capacity of 186 male and females.
