Alumni volunteered to help clean up the City of Newark during the city's annual Cleaner Newark initiative. 15-20 alumni members participated to give back to the community.
Cultural Arts Center
Newark, New Jersey
Alumni members partnered with Stop Shooting, anti-violence organization and volunteered their time to help pass out toys to individuals in need.
Bergen County Youth Detention Center/Piermont Alternative High School
Paramus, New Jersey
Alumni Crystal Johnson, Edward Slade, and CEC Alumni Coordinator Yolanda Epps visited Bergen County Youth detention center and volunteered to provide a day of mentorship to troubled youth. Alumni shared inspirational words with the youth in both programs and the panel encouraged the youth to not allow peer pressure to deter them from their dreams. Alumni focused on the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and poor decision making can have on the rest of their lives
New Hope Baptist Church
Newark, New Jersey
During the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration weekend the Alumni again volunteered for a day of community service in collaboration with the city of Newark, New Hope Baptist Church and New Jersey State Parole Board. Alumni helped to clean the streets around the church and also volunteered to provide outreach to local youth.
Fathers United for Trenton
Trenton, New Jersey
Alumni members volunteered their time and participated in a back to school drive and distribution of school supplies to citizens of Trenton to assist the organization Fathers United for a Better Trenton which was founded by a CEC alumni member and is staffed by several CEC alumni including Wayne Council, Jason Rogers, Ronnie Grant.
Grace Recovery Center
Elizabeth, New Jersey
Alumni volunteered at the annual Grace Recovery Centers Thanksgiving event to help feed the homeless. Prior to volunteering the alumni department held a food drive which was supported tremendously by CEC staff.
City of Orange
Orange, New Jersey
CEC Alumni Coordinator Deynia Edward and a group of alumni volunteered in the City of Orange, planting flowers and small bushes with the goal of beautifying the city in support of its green initiative. |
