Correctional Nursing

Many people wonder just what correctional nursing is. Correctional nursing is a unique and ever growing field that seeks RNs, LPN and LVNs in all nursing specialties. Correctional nursing is an opportunity to provide care to an underserved population. CEC seeks nursing professionals with a wide variety of skill sets and experience. It is the perfect opportunity to utilize your nursing skills to work autonomously and at the same time be a valued member of a multidisciplinary team. CEC medical department prides itself on the philosophy that "that once an offender accesses medical services they become our patients." We strive to provide community standards of care in our facilities while providing a safe and secure environment to work in.

Physicians and Mid Level Providers

CEC prides itself with the level of health care professionals that work with us. CEC employs many community physicians, and mid level providers, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants within our varied correctional settings. We seek health care practitioners who are interested in working with a variety of acute and chronic health care conditions, understand the need of cost containment while advocating for sound patient care. Correctional medicine is an opportunity to challenge your diagnostic and treatment expertise, since many offenders have not had the opportunity or financial means to take care of their medical needs prior to incarceration.

Mental Health Professionals

The increase in mentally ill offenders speaks to the inadequacy of community-based mental health programs and services. Due to the increase in offenders with mental health needs, there is the growing need for mental health professionals to provide a full range of mental health services in our varied correctional settings. Many offenders are accessing mental health services for the first time or have received inconsistent care within the community before incarceration. CEC employs psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and social workers to provide a full range of mental health services such as crisis intervention and stabilization, psychological assessments, medication management, individual and group therapies. We believe that addressing the mental health needs of our offenders is part of treating the whole individual.
